I have been using this foundation stick from last good 6 months and the reason I bought this foundation because it’s catered for heavy duty wear-off where you have to stand under heavy lighting and long hours. It’s extremely popular among Asian bridal makeup, photo shoots, TV and stage makeup and drag makeup looks and among pro-makeup artist kits. So you are asking something long lasting, which doesn’t fade after an hour, looks fresh and the same after 12 hours of wear off, cover spots and marks and looks good in pictures and videos.
I bought 3 kroyalan TV paint sticks from London IMATS and it was around 12-13 pounds which is not a bad deal for 1oz of product and the quality which you get out of it is bombastic.
It’s a heavy duty foundation and it can be very tricky to work with, some people like to use beauty blender or real techniques sponge but it takes long and for me the sponge takes off the foundation so I like to use good old Kabuki brush. I have been using look good feel better bronzer kabuki brush for this foundation. The brush is densely packed with soft bristles, hand cut and soft to work on the skin;
It blends my foundation in seconds and I don’t worry to get cake face, you blend more and thin out the product making it look natural.
TIP: you can use Mac’s fix+ to dampen the brush and drench your face to make the product flow better
But the Pro-makeup artist use a little bit of any liquid foundation ( I use EX1 invisiwear foundation in F200) just few dots on the face and liquid foundation and TV paint stick blends so well together and gives even and smooth coverage. I love this technique.
Just imagine when you mix Inglot duraline to a dry gel eyeliner; wonders my friend.
Consistency & Texture : this stick foundation has different texture compared to any other stick foundations I have used in the past. It has a dry texture the reason being it has a lot of powder in it and the powder has very strong scent to it. It’s not like any other thin formula with a lot of moisturiser in a foundation. It’s dry and demanding to work with. That’s why the liquid foundation rescue the rigidness of it.
Shade range: this foundation has huge shade range and to my surprise every stockist and website seller has different colours. The colour range also affect the formula. For instance
G111A: is drier, and Light to medium coverage . You need 2-3 layers to pack the shade
Chinese: is a lot more smoother, very blendable, a little dot goes long way and full coverage
043: has a drier formula, takes an effort to work but it gives full coverage.
You can wear this foundation regardless of your skin type dry, combination or oily which makes it very unique and good makeup kit product. The secret lies in the primer. I cannot wear a silicone intense primer like inglot’s makeup base or benefit’s porefessional, it stings on my face . But MAC prep & prime goes well on me but I won’t call it a heavy duty primer it’s more like a lotion and less like a primer. But it works under this foundation.
Apply a primer on your face let it sit for few seconds then apply Kroylan Tv paint stick. Blend it with a Kabuki brush, dab few dots of liquid foundation and blend some more. You will get a full coverage. Then apply a powder, I like to use Maybelline powder foundation in colour sand. It makes the whole foundation soft and velvety and it’s not gonna move anywhere throughout the day.
Weather conditions: you can wear this foundation in cold, hot or humid weather. I wore it in extreme cold weather and my friends wear it in Middle East in a lot of humidity and heat. And this foundation works really well. Just to remind you it’s designed for TV and stage makeup.
Everyday or occasional wear:
It depends if you have good tools and 10 mins you will create full coverage and flawless finish and if you don’t have any of the above. Don’t waste your time, just get a powder foundation. I don’t know why you are reading this blog then!
A bientot !!
